Rockhampton Special School is divided into 4 cohorts:
Teachers focus learning in each cohort to student's age and abilities. Data is regularly collected to inform teaching and learning and is reflected upon as a whole staff.
In 2016 a major school focus is improving literacy outcomes for all students. Staff attended 2 days of professional development with Jane Farrall to successfully implement the 'Four Blocks' literacy model. The 'Four Blocks' are guided reading, self-selected reading, writing and working with words. A range of strategies and resources are being used to engage and promote enjoyment through literacy while also fostering each student's ability to become literate.
