Our school provides a comprehensive education for students with disabilities between the ages of 5 and 18 years. The school currently has eight classes, three primary, two middle and three secondary. The enrolment has increased to 55 students during the year. The school has actively supported an inclusive approach by forming partnerships with primary and secondary mainstream schools. This has included part placements, transition programs, joint programs, and resource sharing. Rockhampton Special School also continued to provide an educational service to school aged patients, and children or siblings of patients at the Rockhampton Hospital. The success of this service was as a result of the close liaison with Queensland Health staff and the students’ home schools.
